My name is Ciaran Burke and I am a qualified horticulturist. I have been gardening since I was seven, that is more than 30 years. I want to share my passion for plants, gardens and gardening with others. I also love cooking and eating good food, preferably organic and food which is natural and free from additives. If it can be home grown or locally produced then all the better. I also have a fondness for eating some weeds from the garden and berries from the hedgerows, wild food, its free, its delicious and creates a link to our ancestral past.

Together with my partner Hanna, I run THE GARDEN SCHOOL.

The Garden School is an approved centre for Royal Horticultural Society Qualifications.

Information about all our courses is available on our website www.thegardenschool.ie

In February 2010 we decided to set up THE NEW GROWTH PROJECT. This is a charity initiative which provides free training for unemployed. The course runs for 12 weeks , two days each week and focuses on one unit of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture. Students learn horticulture by practical methods and complete assessments each week. Core subjects are propagation and food growing but participants on the course also learn elements of plant science, garden design, ornamental plants and seasonal garden maintenance.

  1. Hello Ciaran, Thank you for the good write up and excellent images of our garden, ‘Portach’ at Bloom 2011. We’re now already planning for next summers shows, including Chaumont su loire and Hampton Court Palace and seeking sponsorship having been shortlisted for Chaumont. Hampton court have also expressed an interest. I hope you don’t mind us using some of your pictures and quotes in seeking out sponsorship.
If you have any ideas of who approach regarding sponsorship it would be great if you could let me know.
    Regards, Peter
